The driver and over 80 spectators were killed, many others were injured. In 1950, Louis Rosier won the race started at 15:00 due to the victimes, while Jaguar continued, with Mike Hawthorn winning. The race was continued to prevent leaving spectators from crowding the roads which would have slowed down ambulances.
